Kingman - William (Ted) Janeway DeVerter, 77, manager of the Kingman Department Store died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at his home here. He was born March 23, 1883, at Silverwood, a son of Dr. Goerge Thomas and Clara Steinbaugh. Mr. DeVerter was educated at the Bloomingdale Academy and served 14 years as postmaster at Cayuga. He was a past master of Cayuga F&AM Lodge No 584 and past patron of Cayuga OES No 150. He was a member of Kingman Methodist Church and was treasurer of the Kingman Booster Club. Mr. DeVerter was twice married. His first marriage was to Ida Todd. She died in 1913. His second marriage was to Elsie Corbett. She die din 1953. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Frances Garlinghouse of Peru; 3 snos, Walton of Chicago; Wilmont of Cayuga and Jack of Valparaiso; two brothers, Paul of Baytown, Tx and Donald of near Tangier; a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Boilerude of Durham, Calif; 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He waas preceded in death by a sister. Funeral rites are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Woodrow Funeral Home her ewith Rev. Hayes Kendrick in charge. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery near Lodi. William (Ted) Janeway DeVerter, 77, Kingman, died Tuesday at his home.
He was married to Ida Todd, who preceded him in death in 1913.  He was married to Elsie Corbett, who preceded him in death in 1953.
He was a member of the Kingman Methodist Church, past master of Cayuga F&AM 584, past patron of Cayuga OES 150 and
was treasurer of the Kingman Booster Club.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Frances Garlinghouse of Peru, three Sons, Walton of Chicago, Wilmont of Cayuga and Jack of Valparaiso; two brothers, Paul of Baytown, Tex., and Donald of Tangier; a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Bollerude of Durham, Calif.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Woodrow Funeral Home with burial in Miller Cemetery.  - jz
