Phyllis Joan (Dean)
DeSutter, 64, formerly of Newtown and had been residing at Sunbridge Care and
Rehabilitation Center, Danville, Ill., died in the Provena United Samaritan
Medical Center, Logan Campus, Danville, Ill. on Tuesday, February 20, 2001, at
11:20 a.m. She had been in failing health for the past two years. Phyllis was
born in Vigo County, Indiana, on September 11, 1936. She was the daughter of
Edward and Frieda Hermerling Dean. She was raised in Vigo County where she
graduated from Fountainette High School. She later received her B.S. Degree and
Masters Degree in Education from Indiana state University She worked as a
school teacher for 35 years. She began her teaching as a home Economics teacher
at Richland Township School. She later worked as a teacher at the Veedersburg School
until merging into the Southeast Fountain School Corporation where she was a
sixth grade elementary school teacher until her retirement. She was a member of
the St. Francis Xavier Church in Attica; member of the Home Economics Club of
Newtown; and Indiana State Teachers Association. She enjoyed her grandchildren
and their activities along with sewing, gardening and ceramics. Phyllis married
Robert Eugene DeSutter on June 13, 1959 in Attica. Robert preceded her in death
on February 5, 1982. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Mike (Marsha) Nolot,
Indianapolis; three sons, William (Diana) De Sutter and Philip (Christy)
DeSutter, both of Veedersburg; Edward (Sue) DeSutter, Attica; two sisters, Mrs.
Raymond (Meryle) Cooke, Terre Haute and Mrs. Ron (Elizabeth) Moreland, Pembroke
Pines, Fla.; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents
and a step father, Willis Cunning. Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home,
Attica, on Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Christian Wake Service being held at
7:30 p.m. with Rev. Charles Kline reciting the wake service. Services will be
held at the funeral home on Friday, February 23, 2001, at 10 a.m. with Rev.
Gary Johnson officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery,
Attica. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association
or the American Heart Association. – jlr
