COVINGTON — Ruby May Derringer,
91, 820 Fourth St., Covington, died at 7:10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000 in
Covington Manor Health Care. She was born Nov. 17, 1908 in Georgetown, Ill.,
the daughter of Arthur and Carrie Buckallow Cornelius. She married Raymond E.
Derringer April 28, 1928. He preceded in death Oct. 15, 1982. She was a 1926
graduate of Georgetown, Ill. High School. She had been employed as a secretary
in the Fountain County Extension office, Covington Light & Water Office and
for former Fountain County Prosecutor Carl Henthorn. She also worked for her
late husband in his Marathon Oil Company distributorship. She was an inactive
member of Tri Kappa and former member of Mu Epsilon Lambda, Troy Township
Republican Women, the Mother's Club and Covington and Wabash Valley Art League.
She was also an avid tennis player. Survivors include: a daughter Joan (Jim)
Jurney, a Tipton; a grandson, John (Lynn) Jurney, Carmel; two
great-grandchildren, Joseph and Jacob Jurney, both of Carmel; a sister, Dorothy
E. Smith, Goergetown, Ill.; a brother, William R. Cornelius, Ft. Lauderdale,
Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her
parents. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) in Shelby
Funeral Home, Covington, with the Rev. Robert Miller officiating. Burial will
be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, a Covington. The family requests memorials be made to
the Tri Kappa Memorial fund, with envelopes available at the funeral home. – jlr
