Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday in White Cloud, Mich., for Preston Denton, 84, former Veedersburg resident, who died Wednesday in the Midland, Mich., hospital. He had been ill three days. Mr. Denton, who resided at 2213 W Wackerly Road, Midland, was born Aug 15, 1882 in Corydon, Ind. On March 17, 1903 he was married to Lulu Lewis, who preceded him in death in 1940. He was a farmer all his life, first in the Veedersburg area, then in White Cloud, Mich., and had moved to Midland in 1940, when he retired. Many Veedersburg area residents will remember the humorous accounts of hunting and fishing trips which Mr. Denton once wrote for the Veedersburg News. Survivors include three sons, Albert and Warner Denton, both of Midland, and Preston of Tilamook, Oregon; six daughters, Mrs. Norman Kaweck and Mrs. Mildred Anderson of Midland, Mrs. Fred McCrary of Hope, Mich, Mrs. Jack Heinemann of North Brook, Ill, Mrs. John Hughey of Festus, Mo., Mrs. Lulu Stephens of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Mrs. Fred Moon, of Athens, Ga., 39 grand children, 31 great grand children and 11 great great grand children. Also surviving are two nieces, Mrs. Ed Gray of Veedersburg and Mrs. Dorothy Newnum of New Richmond. Funeral services were held in the Hope Baptist Church of White Cloud, with Rev. William W. Crowan officiating. Burial was in Goodwill Cemetery in White Cloud. The Ware-Smith Funeral Home of Midland was in charge of arrangement.
