  Miss Jessie DeHaven, 99, a retired schoolteacher, died at 3:50 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, 1978, at the Covington Manor Nursing Home.
  Miss DeHaven taught for 46 years in area schools and at Covington area schools included McCarty, Lemon, Rob Roy, Kingman and Attica.

  The last member of her family, she was born Nov. 28, 1878, east of Covington, the daughter of Henry M. and Elizabeth Nebeker DeHaven. She was preceded in death by a sister, Audrey.

  She attended township Covington schools and was among the oldest alumni of Covington High, graduating in 1896. She also had attended Indiana University and Indiana State University.

  After retiring from teaching, she was a babysitter for many area families.

  She was a member of the First Church of Christ since 1893. She also was a member of the Richard Henry Lee Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution and Indiana and National Retired Teacher Associations. She was a former member of the Alpha Gamma Chapter of Tri Kappa Sorority. – thanks to S
