Charles E. Daring, 41 years old of Rockville Rt 2 but formerly of Veedersburg lost his life in a highway traffic accident on US 36 Friday evening while en route to Indianapolis. His light pickup truck slipped from the pavement into a shallow ditch and when he served it back onto the highway it crashed into a huge semi-trailer which was westbound. He was killed almost instantly. The accident happened just east of Bainbridge. Charles was a native of the Veedersburg community and was employed by Forrest Songer as manager of the latter’s West Side Outdoor Theater at 7300 W Washington street in the Indianapolis area. He had purchased a small farm near Rockville about a year ago since which he and his wife and two children had resided there and last Easter he became a member of the Rockville Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Rockville Masonic Lodge. He had left home a short time before the accident en route to the theater at the time of the collision which happened about 5:30 p.m. State police reported that the left front part of Charles’ light truck had struck the rear wheels of the cab of the semi-trailer. The driver was Charles H. Wellbrook, Jr. 32 years old of Springfield, Ill who is employed by the Hayes Freight Lines. Charles was born on Nov 4, 1910 the son of Charles P. and Emma Sentman Dearing of near Veedersburg. He spent his early life here and later lived in Anderson for a time before moving to Rockville. For a time he was employed with the Rockville Bowling Alleys and later the Family Drive-in-theatre there also owned by Mrs. Songer. Surviving are the widow, the former Bee Horton of Anderson and the children, Julie, 8 and Rockey, 6; two sisters, Mrs. Florence Howard and Mrs. Alice Campbell, both of Veedersburg and four brothers, William, Donald and Eugene Dearing all of Anderson and Byron Dearing of Indianapolis. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. DST at Osborn Prairie church conducted by the Rev. Hugh F. Cravens pastor of the Rockville Presbyterian Church with burial in the cemetery adjoining the church with the Parham Funeral Home in charge. Rockville Masons conducted Masonic rites at the grove.
