Covington - Mrs. Mabel H. Davis, 58, superintendent of the Fountain County Home the past 15 years died at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Danville, Ill. She had been hospitalized 20 days prior to her death. Mrs. Davis, a resident of this community the past years and a resident of Attica prior to that was a member of a number of area organizations. Among them were Troy Chapter 145, OES, of which she was worthy matron in 1960; Pythian Sisters Wabash Temple 439 of Attica, American Legion Auxiliary of Newtown, VFW Auxiliary of Covington, Mothers Club and Business and Professional Women's Club of Covington, JRGC of Attica, Willing Workers of Portland, Gao Caldron of Danville, Ill., Cabalistic of Wallace and Win One Class of the Covington Methodist Church. Born June 4, 1907, at Veedersburg, she was a daughter of William and Florence Songer Gookins. She was married Nov 6, 1926, to Carl Davis, who survives. Other survivors are a son, Robert of Covington' two brothers, William and Hardy Gookins, both of Newtown and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hegg Funeral Home here with Rev. Raymond Foraker officiating. Interment will be in Bonebrake Cemetery near Veedersburg. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home.
