Lawrence E. Davis, 70, 2328 Poland Hill Drive, Lafayette, died at 2:21 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, in Home Hospital, following a lingering illness. He was born in Lafayette Nov. 1, 1915 and was a lifelong resident of the community. He was married in Attica on May 1, 1937, to Doris I. Schutz, who survives. He was a 1933 graduate of Otterbein High School. He was a turf technician at Purdue for 10 years, retiring in 1981. He also worked as a crane operator at Alcoa for 30 years.He was a member of the First Assembly of God; Green Hill Masonic Lodge 455; Alcoa 25-Year Club; Indiana High School Rodeo association and was a life member of the Indiana Ropers and Doggers Association. Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, Larry K. Davis, New Winchester, Ind. and Eddy R. Davis, New York City; three brothers, Wallace and Grant Davis, Otterbein, and Ronald Davis, Fort Wayne; three sisters, Mrs. Ted (Lucy) Nixon, Covington; Mrs. Walter (Gladys) Hardin, Attica, and Mrs. Arnett (Ethel) Wolverton, Otterbein, and two grandchildren. There was no visitation or funeral service. Those desiring may contribute in memoriam to the Arthritis Foundation or the charity of their choice. Hippensteel Funeral Home, Lafayette was in charge of arrangements.
