DAVIS, John H. - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

John H. Davis, 85 retired general storee owner, died at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, October 3, 1956 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bon Thomas south of Wallace.  He had been in ill health four days. Mr. Davis was born 10 February 1871 in Jackson Township, Fountain County, the son of Isaac and Casendie (sic)Philpot Davis. He married Ida E. McElwee January 19, 1902 in Wallace, and she preceded him in death in Aug 1946.  He retired from the general store business 12 years ago. Survivors are the daughters, Mrs. Beulah Thomas, with whom he had resided; two brothers, Charles of Kingman, Albert of Crawfordsville; four sisters, Mrs. Lonnie Gooding of Waynetown; Mrs. Minnie Watson of Wallace; Mrs. Bessie Myler of Sidell, Ill; Mrs. Opal Reed of Greencastle; 3 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
