George R. Davis of RR 2, Covington, age 84, died at his home Monday morning, March 1. He was born near Freedom in Owen County, October 12, 1897, the son of Albert and Mary Jane Bowman Davis. July 19, 1918, he married Mabel Cope, who survives. A member of the Church of Christ in Freedom and Old Rails and New Ties, he retired in 1962 after working 40 years as a machinist at the Chicago and eastern Illinois Railroad shops in Danville, Illinois.
Also surviving are a son, John W. of rural Covington; two sisters, Mildred Schnidker of Indianapolis and Lavina Griffith of Ohio; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home in Covington with Rev. John Buckley officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park at Danville, Illinois. – thanks so much to “S”
