West Lafayette—Emerson J. Davis, 93, 2741 N. Salisbury, West Lafayette, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 1989 in Westminster Village, where he had lived since 1986.
He was born July 8, 1895, near Pence in Warren County, He formerly lived in Williamsport. He was married in 1919 in Williamsport to Edith Keister. On Jan. 29, 1934 in Drown Point, he was married to Evelyn Hunt, who preceded him in death May 25, 1986.
He taught school in a one-room schoolhouse before enlisting in the Army and was an instructor in artillery school during World War I.
He worked in the hardware business in Crawfordsville for 35 years and also farmed near Crawfordsville at one time.
He was a member of Williamsport Presbyterian Church and a charter member of the American Legion in Crawfordsville.
Surviving are a son, Richard A., Tallahassee, Fla.; one daughter, Mrs. Cecil (Virginia) Rouse, Lafayette; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hunt and Son Funeral Home, Crawfordsville, with the Rev. Lawrence Richert officiating. Burial was in Newtown Cemetery. – thanks to s
