Charles J. Davis passed away this morning at 10 o'clock at Culver Hospital after a weeks illness following a paralytic stroke. Mr. Davis was born August 1, 1859 near Hillsboro and was the son of Elisha and Hetty Wood Davis. He was united in marriage in 1895 to Miss Mahala Widener. To this union 4 children were born, one died in infancy. Those surviving are Mrs. Clay Warren of Muncie; James Davis of Quantico, VA; Joe Davis of Grand Rapids, Mich. The deceased is also survived by one brother, William Davis of Brookfield, Mo; one sister, Mrs. Charles McBroom of Augusta, Wisc and two grandchildren, Mary Ellen and Elbert Clay Warren of Muncie. For several months, Mr. Davis had been residing with his daughter in Muncie but several days ago he returned here to engage in carpenter work. Mr. Davis was a member of Antioch Chrisitan Church in Fountain County for a number of years but transferred his membership to the Christian Church at Smartsburg where he was a member at the time of his death. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 at the Utterback Funeral Home on the corner of Wabash & Grant Avenues and will be in charge of Rev. WH Newlin of this city pastor of the Waynetown Christian Church. Interment will be made at the Masonic Cemetery at Waynetown. -- kbz
