Fred H. Darnell, 77, prominent in the business life of the community for many years, died at his home here at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday after an illness of nine years. Death was due to arterial sclerosis.
Mr. Darnell was in the grocery and hardware business most of hif life, first as a clerk and later as an owner in partnership with his brother, Claude.
Born Aug 21, 1876, in Waynetown, he was the son of Henry and Mary Randolph Darnell. He was first married in 1913 to Elphia Parker, who preceded him in death. He was married a second time on July 2, 1939, to Irene Clark to Crawfordsville. Mr. Darnell was a member of the Waynetown Baptist Church and of Masonic Lodge 302 of Waynetown.
The survivors include the wife; a son, David W. Darnell of Anderson and a brother, Claude Darnell of Signal Mountain, Tenn.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm. Thursday at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Waynetown Baptist church with Rev. Harry S. Burns as pastor assisted by Rev. Allen Kiefer of Wallace. Friends may pay their respects the Grenard & Servies Funeral Home. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour before the funeral. - kz
