DARK, Emily Stull - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

The sudden death of Grandma Dark at this place on last Friday morning cast quite a gloom over the entire community. Her death is supposed to be due to heart trouble. The following obituary gives the life of this good woman better than we can express. We therefore submit it to our readers.

Emily J. Stull Dark was born in Montgomery Co NY Feb 23, 1849 and departed this life Dec 24, 1915 aged 66Y10M1D. She came to Fountain County in the early 1860s where she has lived until her death. She was united in marriage to Joseph Dark in the year 1868 and to this union 8 children were born: Charles; William; Hattie; Hannah; Bert; Thomas; Clarence all of Kingman and vicinity except Hattie West who resides in Danville Illinois, one child having died in infancy. She was converted at Beech Grove Church in 1865 and untied with the United Brethren in Christ at that place & in after years moved her membership to the Kingman Church and remained a faithful member until her death, as her consistent life and character showed. Always letting her light shine before the world that others might see and know the reality of a Christian life. Her motto in life was to do good and be ready when the summons came, carrying out the command of Jesus who said to his disciples, "Be ye therfore ready for in an hour when ye think not the son of man cometh." She loved the old book, the Bible and read with delight its pages which was a lamp to her feet and light to her pathway growing brighter and bright until the perfect day. She is gone but not forgotten but we are comforted in the happy thought that our loss is her eternal gain, and that she has entered into the saints everlasting rest. She leaves to mourn 7 children; 20 granchildren ; one sister, two brothers and a host of relatives & friends survive. Funeral services conducted at the Friends Church by Rev JM McHargue & Albert Rardin of Kingman. Burial at Harveysburg Cemetery.
