Donald Lee Danley, 32, of 203 E. Pike Street, Attica, was killed early Thursday morning, June 19, 1969, in a one-car crash six miles east of Attica on Road 28. According to investigating officer Donnie Lee was en route west and left the pavement on the south side of the road and hit a tree in front of the James Cunningham residence. The accident is thought to have occurred sometime between 12 midnight and 3 a.m. and was reported by a passing truck driver. Investigating were State Officer Jerry Van Meter and Fountain County Coroner Robert Shelby. Mr. Danley was born in Crawfordsville March 25, 1936, the son of Elmer and Mary Johnson Danley. He was a graduate of Attica High School in 1955, and attended Indiana University at Bloomington three years. He served six months active duty in the U. S. Air Force in Texas and Cuba. He was presently a member of the Air Force Reserve. Mr. Danley had traveled for the McQuay-Norris auto parts firm of St. Louis, and had been assistant manager in the Indianapolis warehouse before becoming associated with the family's auto parts store in Attica, in 1962. He was a member of the Attica United Methodist Church, and the Jaycees. He is survived by his parents. Friends will be received after 5:30 p.m. Friday at the DeSutter Funeral Home in Attica. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, at the Attica Methodist Church with Rev. Harold Bachert officiating. Burial will be in West Haven Cemetery in Lafayette. -waw

Attica – Donald L. Danley, 32, Attica was killed early Thursday morning when his car struck a tree along Indiana 28 about six miles east of Attica.  Danley is the third resident of Fountain County to die in traffic within the past three weeks.  According to Fountain County Coroner Robert Shelby, Danley’s 1968 car left the road, traveled 242 feet and struck a tree headon. Death was due to a fractured skull and other injuries. Time of the accident was approximately 2:30 a.m. State police were notified of the accident by a passing motorist who passed the wreckage then traveled on to West Lebanon where he stopped and phoned police. The accident was investigated by trooper Jerry VanMeter. The son of Elmer and Mary Johnson Danley, Donald Lee Danley was born in Crawfordsville on March 25, 1937.  He graduated from Attica HS in 1955 and attended Indiana University at Bloomington for three years. He never married. A salesman with the family auto parts firm in Attica, Danley became associated with his parents in 1962.  Prior to that, he traveled for McQuary-Norris Auto parts Manufacturers of St. Louis. He also served as assistant manger at that firm’s Indianapolis warehouse.  He was a member of the Air Force Reserve and served six months active duty in Texas and was in Cuba during the Cuban crisis period.  He was a member of United Methodist Church and Attica Jaycees. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday at the Attica United Methodist Church where the body lay in state one hour before the services. Rev. Harold Bachert officiated. Interment was in Rest Haven Cemetery, Lafayette. The DeSutter Funeral Home of Attica was in charge of arrangements. – kbz
