Lafayette - John T. Cunningham, 88, former Newtown resident and retired contractor and farmer, died Monday afternoon in the Care Convalescence Center at Lafayette. He was a member of the Newtown United Methodist Church and was educated in the Cleveland, Va., school. He was born in Washington County, Va., on Sept. 15, 1883, a son of Benjamin and Emily Combs Cunningham. He married Margarite McCauley who died in 1965. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Lucille Johnson of Lafayette; three sons, King of Rt. 3, Veedersburg, Clarence of Rt. 1, Romney, and John Jr., of Dixon, Mo.; a sister, Miss Daisey Cunningham of Abingdon, Va.; 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, a brother and a sister. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Crumley-Williams Funeral Home at Hillsboro with Rev. Richard Boswell officiating. Burial will be in Newtown Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. Wednesday.
