HAZEL SONGER CUNNINGHAM
Mrs. Hazel Vae Cunningham, 76, a longtime resident of Crawfordsville, died at noon Wednesday at Culver Hospital where she had been a patient for three weeks. Her home was in the Palmer Apartments. Born April 16, 1888, at Hoopeston, Ill., Mrs. Cunningham was the daughter of James and Mary Songer. Her mother died when she was nine months old and she was raised in the home of an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Shuler in Crawfordsville. Mrs. Cunningham was married July 6, 1906 in Crawfordsville to Burford L. Cunningham, who died Nov. 16, 1954. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, The Eagles Ladies Auxiliary and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Cunningham was educated in the Crawfordsville schools and had worked at the Hillsdale Garment Factory and the Wilson Brothers Shirt Factory here. Surviving are a son, James M. Cunningham of Louisville, Ky.; five daughters, Mrs. Evan Tobler of Nyssa, Ore., Mrs. Dowie Cooper, Mrs. James Cutter and Mrs. Harold Proctor, all of Crawfordsville, and Mrs. Charles Perkins, Rt. 4, Crawfordsville; 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and two daughters, Mrs. Neva Myers of Crawfordsville and an infant; a son, Burford Jr.; a sister, and three brothers. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Bright Funeral Home in charge of Rev. Milo M. Riggs of the First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon on Thursday.
