PRESTON CHUMLEA

Preston T. Chumlea was born in eastern Tennessee, Dec 23, 1821. Departed this life April 26, 1902, age 80 years 4 months 3 days. Moved to Fountain County, Indiana with his parents in 1834 with whom he resided until he was united in marriage to Ellen Walker in 1842. To which union were born four children, two sons and one daughter survive him, David, Margarette and William Alice his former wife died in 1873. Then in 1873 he was married to Mary Davis. To this union were born two daughters, Alta and Elda both preceded him to the spiritual world dying when quite young. In early life he united with the UB Church. In 1857 he joined the Baptist Church and lived a faithful Christian until death. A short time before he died he called his wife and children and grand children and neighbors who were present to his bed each one separately and talked to them as only a dying Christian can talk. Said goodbye and wanted them all to meet him in heaven. Burton Chumlea was a kind husband and father and a good neighbor ever lending a helping hand, He leaves a host of relatives and friends who mourn his departure. The funeral was preached at Bonebrake Corner Monday at noon by Rev. Newgent after which the remains were entered in Bonebrake Cemetery.
