Shirley Cruea, 76, of 104 Washington St, Covington died at 10:50 p.m. Friday Feb 23, 1996 at USMC, Logan Campus, Danville, Ill. Born Feb 9, 1920 in Riverdale, Ill, she was a daughter of Morton Porter and Flora (Hettman) Gilbert. She married George E. Cruea on Oct 22, 1950. He preceded her in death on March 10, 1978. Mrs. Creua had been a resident of Covington for the past 50 years, moving there from Joliet, Ill. She was a former Fountain County Jail Matron, while her husband was Sheriff. She also was a former employee of Douglass & Nelson Abstractors, Attica Radio Room and she drove a MAC Van for Area IV Council on Aging. Surviving are four sons, Jerry Bruce (Sharon) Creua, Richmond, VA; Garth Cruea, Covington, Gilber (Lee Ann) Creua of Sheldon, Ill and Lesley (Becky) Cruea of Gobles, Mich; one daughter, Carol Ann Cruea of Covington; one sister, Margaret Suzuki; 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Private services were held on Tuesday at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, Rev. Allen Phillips officiated. Interment at Mt. Hope.
