George E. Crue, 58 of Covington a former Fountain County Sheriff died at 5:30 Friday March 10, 1978 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Danville, Il. He had been a patient there since Wednesday. Mr. Cruea served two terms as sheriff from 1958-66 and several years as deputy. He was on the Covington Police force before being elected sheriff and he never returned to parttime duty there. Mr. Cruea was a member of FOP and Indian Sheriffs Association. He was born 2-22-1920 in Covington. He was the son of Asa & Bertha Hodge Cruea. He married Shirley Gilbert 10-22-1950. She survives. Other survivors include 4 sons: Jerry Bruce of Richmond Va and Garth; Gilbert and Lesley all at home; a daughter, Carol Ann at home; two sisters, Mrs. Lela Clifton of Danville and Mrs. David (Pearl) Noble of Covington; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews including Art reua who served as co. sheriff 1967-74. He was preceded in death. by two bros. Services will be at 11 Monday at Bodine & Shelby Fun Home with Rev Robt Miller officiating. Burial is at Mt Hope. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 Sunday.

George E. Cruea, 58, of Covington, a former Fountain County sheriff, died at 5:30 p.m. Friday, March 10, 1978, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Ill. He had been a patient there since Tuesday.
  Mr. Cruea served two terms as sheriff, from 1958-66, and also served several years as deputy sheriff. He was on the Covington police force before being elected sheriff, and he later returned to part time duty there.
  Mr. Cruea was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Indiana Sheriffs Association.
  Born Feb. 22, 1920, in Covington, he was a son of Asa and Bertha Hodge Cruea. He married Shirley Gilbert on Oct. 22, 1950. She survives.
  Other survivors include four sons, Jerry Bruce of Richmond, Va., and Garth, Gilbert and Lesley, all at home; a daughter, Carol Ann at home, two sisters, Mrs. Lela Clifton of Danville and Mrs. David (Pearl) Noble of Covington; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including Art Cruea, who served as county sheriff from 1967-1974.
  He was preceded in death by two brothers.
  Services were Monday at Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Miller officiating. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery. – thanks to S
