Cates - Mrs. Maude Catherine Crowder, 93 of the Cates community on Veedersburg Rt 2 died at 9:30 a.m. Sunday June 4, 1978 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Ill. She had been a patient a day. She had resided in the Cates area all of her life, except a few years in Benton Harbor, Michigan. She was a member of the old East Liberty Christian Church and a 50-year member of Yeddo Chapter OES. Born March 13, 1885, in Fountain County she was the daughter of Noah and Mary Hibbs Witsman. She was married Jan 23, 1905 to Amos Crowder who died April 19, 1971. Survivors include 4 sons, Eustin of Cates; Ora of Veedersburg Rt 2; Keith of Dekalb, ill and Amos, Jr. of Baroda, Mich; three daughtesr, Mrs. Catherine Boehm of Indianapolis; Mrs. Vera Brooks of Benton Harbor and Mrs. Roberta Nieman of Danville; a sister, Mrs. Lola Keller of Catlin, Ill; 39 grandchildren 50 great granchildren and several great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, a daughter, two sisters and two brothers. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington with Rev. Alfred Dobbs officiating. Burial in Cooper's Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight and 2-5 and 7-9 Tuesday at the funeral home where Eastern Star services will be 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Cates - Maude Catherine Crowder, 93, Rt. 2, Veedersburg, died Sunday morning in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Danville. Mrs. Crowder lived her entire life in Cates except for a few years she spent in Benton Harbor, Mich. She was a member of the old East Liberty Christian Church and a 50-year member of Yeddo Chapter 105 OES. Born March 13, 1885, in Fountain County, she was a daughter of Noah and Mary (Hibbs) Witsman. She was married to Amos Crowder. He preceded her in death. Survivors include seven children, Eustin of Cates, Ora of Rt. 2, Veedersburg, Keith of DeKalb, Ill., Mrs. Catherine Boehm of Indianapolis, Mrs. Vera Brooks of Benton Harbor, Mrs. Roberta Nieman of Danville, Ill., and Amos Jr. of Baroda, Mich.; a sister Mrs. Lola Keller of Catlin, Ill.; 39 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, a daughter, two sisters and two brothers. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home at Covington. The Rev. Alfred Dobbs will officiate. Burial will be in Cooper Cemetery. Friends may call in the funeral home from 7-9 this evening and 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Eastern Star services will be 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
