Greencastle - Mrs. Martha Cronkhite, 84, of Greencastle died Sunday evening in Hendricks County Hospital at Danville. She was a member of the Wallace Lutheran Church and Waynetown Chapter 435, Order of Eastern Star. Born Oct. 28, 1889, at Danville, Ill., she was a daughter of Christian and Emma Shoape Nicklas. Survivors include four sons, Alfred of Kingman, Dean of Crawfordsville and Elwin and Robert of Indianapolis; four daughters, Frances Ballard, Augusta Lewis and Dortha Dretske, all of Indianapolis, and Virginia Knauer of Cincinnati; a sister, Grace Warrick of South Bend; a brother, Robert Nicklas of Covington; 19 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Augustus C., and two sons, Dale and Harold. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Hopkins Funeral Home here with the Rev. Richard Browder officiating. Burial will be in Forrest Hill Cemetery here. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Tuesday.

She was born Oct. 28, 1889, in Danville, Ill., the daughter of Christian and Emma Shoupe Nicklas. She married Augustus C. Cronkhite, who preceded her in death. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of Wallace and Waynetown Chapter 435 Order of the Eastern Star.
