CRONE, John B. - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

John B. Crone, 92, Fort Myers Beach, Fla., died July 25. He had been in ill health following a stroke suffered June 29. He was born in Warren County July 5, 1894, the son of John W. and Anna Farr Crone. He married Irene Hall in 1917. She survives. He had a distinguished service career. Enlisting in the Infantry in World War I, he earned the Distinguished Service Cross Citation and the French Croix de Guerre for extraordinary heroism in operations at Marvaux, France. He also had to serve in the Army of occupation for 18 months. Coming home, he worked as cashier in the Central State Bank and Farmers Central Bank in West Lebanon for 24 years. With the outbreak of World War II, he was called back for service and served as Commandant of Military ASTP at Bradley College, Peoria, Ill., St. Norbert's College, DePere, Wis., and University of Wisconsin, Madison. He and his wife lived on their farm north of West Lebanon until 1941 and in the town of West Lebanon from 194 6 until 1964. At that time, they moved to their present home in Fort Myers Beach. They have three children: J. Hall Crone, Anna Jean Hunter (Mrs. Park) and Boyd M. Crone, all of Warren County; nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Anne Day, and a brother, Charles T. Crone. Memorial graveside services will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday, Aug 2, in West Lebanon Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Military graveside rites will be by American Legion Post No. 259, Williamsport. Fisher Funeral Homes in charge of arrangements. Those so desiring may contribute in memoriam to the American Legion Post No. 259, Williamsport.
