CRANMORE, Melvin

Covington - Melvin L. Cranmore Jr., age 17, son of Melvin L. Cranmore Sr., of 119 Pine St., Danville, Ill., and grandson of Mrs. Florence Mead of Covington, died at 2 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, in an Army hospital at Ft. Bliss, El Paso, Tex., of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. The accident occurred Nov. 30 near Ft. Huachuca, Ariz., where he was stationed. The car he was driving first struck a horse and then a utility pole. The youth suffered spinal injuries and was paralyzed from his neck to his waist, including his arms. The youth's father of Danville, Ill., and his mother, Mrs. Maxine Moore of Crawfordsville, were with him at the hospital. He lived just a week after the accident. He had attended Danville High School and had been in the Army since last April. Surviving, in addition to his father and his mother, are: twin brothers, Donald and Darrell Cranmore of Ladoga; a sister, Terresa Ann Cranmore, also of Ladoga; his grandmother, Mrs. Mead of Covington; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Shelton of Crawfordsville; his step-mother of Danville, Ill., and one step-brother. Several aunts and uncles also survive. Mrs. O. E. (Bertha) Lape of near Covington is his great aunt. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 11, at Bright Funeral Home in Crawfordsville. The Rev. Guy E. Tremaine officiated. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, near Elmdale. -- typed by: GA (died 6 December 1968)
