Covington—Mrs. Ruth Crain, 93, a life resident of Covington, died at 5:15 a.m. today, Jan. 24, 1974, at the Tall Trees Nursing Home in Covington. She had been ill some time.
Born Oct. 4, 1880, near Covington, she was the daughter of Walter Frildon and Sarah Rogers Huffer. She was married Sept. 8, 1909, to Mont L. Crain, who died Oct. 19, 1950.
A graduate of Covington High, she taught school prior to her marriage. She was a member of the United Methodist Church where she was active in the Win One Class and WSCS for many years. She also sang in the choir and taught Sunday school for 50 years.
Mrs. Crain was given a Bible by the church in honor of her services. She was a 50-year member and a past matron of the Troy Chapter 145 Order of Eastern Star and a past chief of the Pythian Sisters Lodge.
She was a 52-year member and past president of the Booklovers Club and also was active in the Covington Business and Professional Women’s Club, Troy Township Home Demonstration Club and chorus and Fountain County Choral Club.
Mrs. Crain also was a former president of the County Chapters of Order of Eastern Star and a former representative in the Order of Eastern Star to Puerto Rico.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Roy (Lula) Hunt of San Antonio, Rex.; a daughter, Mrs. Norris L. (Dorothy) Rhodes of Marco Island, Fla., a son Don of Covington; three grandsons, Jerry, Bradley and Randy; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by two sisters and brother.
Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert H. Miller officiated. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery. – thanks to S
