VEEDERSBURG — Robert S. Craig, 86, formerly of Veedersburg, died at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006 in the Veterans Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born Jan. 9, 1920 in Veedersburg, the son of Charles W. and Lillie (Lightle) Craig. He married Joan Shoaf Aug. 5, 1950 in Veedersburg. She survives. He graduated from Veedersburg High School. He was employed by the Old Nickle Plate Railroad and retired from the Norfolk and Western Railroad in 1982. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and a Purple Heart recipient with a Bronze Star. Survivors, besides the wife, include: a son, Steve (special daughter-in-law, Cathy) Craig; five daughters, Anita Allison, Avon, Melodie (Wade) Leinart, Clayton, Debbie (Bob) Holtsman, Woodstock, Ga., Becky (Dan) Morford, Hot Springs, S.D., and Julie (Bryan) Miller, Zionsville; 23 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Dickerson Funeral Home, Veedersburg, with Pastor Steve Ranson officiating. Burial was in Rockfield Cemetery. Military rites were conducted by the Fountain County Veterans. Preferred memorials to the Disabled American Veterans. – jlr
