Three former Veedersburg residents wee killed Friday and two others were injured in a one-car accident near Grant’s Pass, Oregon.
   Dead are David Lee Smith, 17; Jack Cox, 40, the driver, and Alan Grimes, 17. Grimes’ father, Lowell, and a brother, Frankie Dean Grimes, were injured in the accident.
  The accident occurred at 7 p.m. Eastern Standard time when the brakes failed on the car as it rounded a curve. It rolled down an embankment and struck a tree, according to reports reaching the family.
  Cox was the uncle of the Grimes youth. He moved to Veedersburg four years ago. The Grimes moved to Oregon two weeks ago.
  Smith had been a senior at Fountain Central High School and was completing his senior year in Oregon.
  Funeral arrangements for Alan Grimes and Cox are incomplete.
  Services for Smith were at 2 p.m. EST Tuesday at the Community Bible Church in Veedersburg. Burial was in Rockfield Cemetery.
  Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Walter G. (Shirley) Bahls of Veedersburg; his father, Joe C. Smith Jr., of Danville, Ill.; two brothers, Joe Michael and Steven Ray, and two sisters, Mindy Renee and Wendy Kay, all at home in Veedersburg; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Smith of Hillsboro, Ind.; step grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter B. Bahls of Danville, and several aunts and uncles.
  He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents.
  His fiancée, Miss Rise Hawn, resides with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Dillon of Crawfordsville, Ind. They were to be married at Christmas.
  He was a member of the Community Bible Church of Veedersburg. -s
