COX, David Eugene - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

   Funeral services were at 1 p.m. today (Friday) at Barrick & Son Funeral Home in Danville, Ill. for David Eugene Cox, 32, of Cates, a native of Danville.  He died at 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, in a shooting near Perrysville.     The Rev. Kenneth Hayes officiated.  Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.      He was a loader at Lauhoff Grain Co.  He attended Douglas Park Church of the Nazarene and was a member of AIW Local 672.  He enjoyed fishing and hunting.      He was born July 23, 1952, in Danville, the son of Jack R. and Joan Duchene Cox.      Survivors include his father and stepmother, Laura, Danville; a daughter, Melissa Marie Cox, Casey, Ill.; a son, David E. Jr., Casey; a sister, Mary Nolan, Okochobee, Fla. And a stepsister, Lori Vichich, Richmond, Va.       He was preceded in death by his mother, a sister and a brother.

    A rural Covington man has been charged with murder after a Kingman man died of a shotgun wound to the head.

    Bobby W. Fowler, 39, Route 2, Covington, is being held without bond for the Monday night shooting.

    Dead is David E. Cox, 32, Kingman.  Fountain County Coroner Bob Maus said Cox bled to death after being struck in the back of the head by one blast from a .20 gauge shotgun.  Maus said Cox died at approximately 10 p.m.  An autopsy was performed Tuesday at the Tippecanoe County morgue.   It is the first shooting death in Fountain County since 1982, according to Fountain County Prosecuting Attorney Richard Rennick.   Fowler was arraigned in Fountain Circuit Court on Tuesday.  The hearing will be Feb. 4 at 9 a.m. in the Fountain County Courthouse.

    Fountain County Sheriff Dale Conrad said the department received a call from Fowler’s wife, Tina, Monday night.  When officers arrived at the scene, Cox was lying already dead on the kitchen floor.  Conrad said the two men had been together earlier in the evening and had visited a bar in Danville, Ill.  Fowler had been taken to a Danville hospital that night because he suffered from a physical ailment.   Danville police were called to the hospital and questioned Fowler.  He refused treatment and left the hospital.  When the men returned to Fowler’s home, they had a party.  Participating in the party were Fowler, his wife, Cox and his girlfriend and another male.  Conrad said during the course of the party an argument broke out.  Witnesses told police Fowler and Cox got into a wrestling match in the kitchen.   Conrad said Cox’s girlfriend said she was going to leave.  Cox went outside with her and then re-entered the home.  Conrad said according to witnesses, the two men were not fighting at the time.  Cox began talking and Fowler allegedly went into another part of the house, obtained the .20 gauge shotgun and fired at Cox.     Conrad said cocaine and marijuana were found in the home.  Charges were filed against Tina Fowler Wednesday morning.  She was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance.  All are Class D felonies with a possible sentence of 1 to 4 years each.  The incident is still under investigation and more charges may be filed, according to Conrad.  He said he does not think there are any accomplices to Cox’s murder.    Fowler was being held in the Fountain County Jail without bond.  He is currently being treated at Community Hospital, Williamsport, for chest pains.  Conrad said he thinks Fowler will be released soon.   Rennick said that if Fowler is found guilty, he could face a prison term of 30 to 60 years.   Attica attorney Tom O’Connor has been appointed to defend Fowler.  O’Connor declined to comment on the case, saying it would be improper to do so. – thanks so very much to “S”
