CORDELL, Leah Deeter

Leah Alceta Deeter was born in Hiddleberg, Penn March 3, 1856 and moved with her parents to Indiana when about 8 years of age where she lived and grew to womanhood. She was married in the year of 1875 (27 Dec 1875 in Fountain County, Indiana) to WM Cordell. To this union were born 11 children, five boys all living and six girls one having died in infancy and one at the age of 16 years. She was converted and united with the Methodist Church in her girlhood days and lived and died in the faith. She leaves to mourn her loss, her 9 children: Sanford Cordell of Hatly Colo; Ottie, William, Jess and Ralph Cordell, all of Watonga; Mrs. Nellie Eckard of Watonga; Mrs. Leilia Gerhardt of Carshin, Kansas; Mrs. Dolly Ceartney of Wichita and Mrs. Minnie Anderson of Watonga. She died at the age of 69 years, 7 months and 12 days.  She was among the first settlers, coming in on the day of the run and held the love and respect of her many neighbors and friends. The funeral was held at the home Thursday Oct 16th by Rev. FL Farrington in the present of a large crowd.  Many beautiful floral emblems and pieces adorned her casket. She was buried at the Cordell Cemetery.
