VEEDERSBURG — Russell A. Cooper, Sr., 63, Veedersburg, died at 4:55 a.m. at home hospital in Lafayette on Thursday, May 1, 2003. He was born in Stonebluff on March 17, 1940 to Robert and Louise Verhey Cooper. He was married in Covington on July 23, 1958 to Carolyn S. Philpott. She survives. He gradated from Veedersburg High School in 1958. He worked for Hyster in Danville, Ill. for 37 years, retiring in January of 2001. His hobby was collecting John Deere memorabilia. Also surviving are four sons, Russell Jr. (Rhonda), Brian (Teresa), Jeffery (Terry), and Jason Cooper all of Veedersburg. A daughter, Kimberly Cooper and her fiance, Micheal Swearingen of Danville, Ill. also survive, as well as six sisters: Margaret Austin of Indianapolis, Dorothy Adams of Rockville, Virginia Adams, Alberta Cooper and Bonnie Cooper of Lafayette, Le Veda Cooper of Veedersburg, 12 grandchildren and an adopted granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. Graveside services will be held at Rockfield Cemetery, with Rev. Gary Johnson officiating at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 7. Visitation will be at the First Christian Church, corner of Third and Mill Streets from 4-8 p.m., May 6. Dickerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. – jlr
