Joseph S. Cooper, 54, who had been identified with the printing industry of this city 27 years, died suddenly at 7:45 o'clock Friday morning at his home, 610 east Main street. He had been ill with a heart ailment. Mr. Cooper, a linotype operator for the Journal-Review the past several years, was born Jan. 25, 1894, in Fountain county. His parents were Campbell and Carrie Bell Cooper. He married Irma DeAth, April 22, 1922, at Winchester. A veteran of the first World War, Mr. Cooper was a member of the First Methodist church, Crawfordsville Elks lodge and Byron Cox post of the American Legion. Before coming to Crawfordsville he was associated with the printing industry in Veedersburg and Waynetown. He also was a former publisher of the Waynetown Despatch. Surviving are the widow; two sons, Robert S. Cooper, of Painesville, O., and Richard Q. Cooper, this city; three grandchildren, Robert Bernard Cooper, Laura Ann Cooper, and Frank Foley Cooper; three sisters, Mrs. Marion Rice, of Hillsboro and Mrs. Thelma Switzer, and Mrs. Blanche Shirley, both of Lafayette; two brothers, Charles Cooper, of Hillsboro and Winifred Cooper, of Decatur, and an uncle, Ed Cooper, of Clarks Hill. His grandfather, Joseph Cooper, was the presiding elder of the Crawfordsville district of the United Brethren church for a number of years. A window, dedicated in his memory, was placed in the First Evangelical United Brethren church here a few years ago. The body was taken to the Bright Funeral home where services will be held at 3 o'clock (CDT) Monday afternoon. Rev. Almon J. Coble, pastor of the First Methodist church will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery, Hillsboro, with the Hillsboro American Legion post to conduct military rites at the graveside. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home afternoon Saturday.
