Funeral services for Homer Preston Cooper, age 70, a life resident of the Mellott area, who died at 10:46 p.m. Friday, March 16, in Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 19, at the Crumley Funeral Home in Hillsboro. The Rev. Jack Eitelbuss, assisted by the Rev. Grover DeNeal, officiated. Burial was in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Mr. Cooper had been in ill health the past three years, and seriously ill since Oct. 1961. He had been a hospital patient two weeks. Born April 5, 1891, at Mellott, he was the son of Charles M. and Rosa A. McAlister Cooper. He was married to Mary Frances Hughes of Hillsboro on July 14, 1945 at Rockville. Mr. Cooper had been employed at the C&EI Railroad Car Shop in Danville, Ill., and later had worked at an aluminum plant in Lafayette. He retired from work three years ago because of ill health. Survivors include the wife; his father; two sisters, Miss Gladys Cooper of Mellott, Mrs. Eva Ballah of Veedersburg, eight brothers, Chester, Leva and Floyd of Attica, Casper of Tab, Forrest of Lakeland, Fla., Marion and Dowie of Crawfordsville and Fern of Mellott. An aunt and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his mother, three brothers and two sisters.
