COOPER, Dowie - WWII

Dowie T. Cooper, 84 of 709 Elm Street died at 1:10 p.m. (Dec 9, 1994) Friday at Logan Campus Medical Center in Danville, Ill of natural causes. He retired i 1975 after 32 years at Hoosier Crown Corporation in Crawfordsville. He was a World War II Navy veteran.
Mr. Cooper was a member of the Mellott Congregational Christian Church in Mellott, a 35-year member of Eagles Lodge of Crawfordsville and American Legion Post 72 of Crawfordsville. He was a 1930 graduate of Mellott High School. He was born June 19, 1910 at Mellott to Charles and Rosa McAllister Cooper. He first married Violet Cunningham who died in 1972. He then married Ruby L. Ward on Nov 17, 1975 at Crawfordsville. She survives.
Other survivors include a stepson, Earl L. Staggs of New Market; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Russell G (Barbara) Miller and Mrs. Raymond (Charlotte) Holmes, both of Crawfordsville; three brothers, Forest of Lakeland, Fla; Floyd of Attica and Fern of Mellott; a sister, Elva Ballah of Veedersburg; five stepgrandchildren and two step great grandchildren.
He was preceded by three brothers and a sister. The funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Powers & Priebe Funeral Home; Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery at Waynetown. Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Sunday. There will be military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. - kbz
