A Covington man died Saturday night when his auto left the road and overturned several times, police said.
Dead is Dean E. Conrad, 35, of 1204 Fourth Street. The accident occurred about 8:20 p.m. on old State Road 63 about two miles south of West Lebanon, Indiana State Police said.
Police said Conrad, the lone occupant of the car, was southbound when the auto went out of control and off the right side of the pavement. Conrad was thrown from the car as it overturned.
He was dead when authorities arrived.
Warren County Coroner Philip K. Fisher said Conrad died from massive head injuries. Fisher said he would order an autopsy.
Conrad was born January 27, 1942 in Cayuga, the son of Robert and Cassie Trosper Conrad.
He was married on September 1, 1962 in Marshfield to Marlene VanLeer who survives. There are three children at home, two daughters, Teresa and Vicki, and one son, Jimmy. Also, four brothers, Robert Lee Conrad of Ridgefarm, Ill., Glen Conrad of Attica; Virgil Conrad of Danville, Ill.; Kenneth Conrad of Cayuga; five sisters, Mrs. Zeal (Ruth) Machledt of Newport; Mrs. Hugh (Hazel) Williamson of Dana; Mrs. John (Frances) Yurgutis of Des Plains, Ill.; Mrs. Bill (Betty) Wilson of Carpentersville, Ill.; Mrs. Carolyn Rose of Cayuga. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, one sister and three brothers.
He was a member of Teamsters Union 354 of Lafayette. He was a transport driver for Schneider Transport, Inc. of Greenbay, Wis. For the past four years. Prior to that, he worked at General Motors in Danville, Ill., for nine years.
Services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, 1977 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Covington with Rev. Grover Williams, Jr. officiating. Burial was in Thomas Cemetery at Newport, Ind. Friends were received after 4 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
