Cocoa – Wilmer M. Conover, 89, a retired Navy Lt. Commander died Monday Aug 19 at Mariner Health Care in Titusville. Mr. Conover was born in Attica, Ind. He came to Brevard County in 1974 from Miami. A 27-year-Navy veteran he flew dirigibles and blimps and survived the crashes of the Hindenburg and Macon and the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. He also survived the destruction of the Richmond Naval Air Station by Hurricane Andrew. Mr. Conover was a former Mason. Survivors include his wife, Clara Conover of Cocoa; son Donald Conover of Titusville and daughter, Delore Purlee of Vero Beach. No calling hours or services are scheduled. Burial will be in Brevard Memorial Park. Brevard Funeral Home in Frontenac is in charge of arrangements.
