KERR, John
John & Mary Waldrip KERR -- 25th Anniversary
Source: Crawfordsville Journal Saturday Weekly 8 Oct 1887
CRYSTAL WEDDING -- Monday, the 19th -- was the fifteenth anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. John Kerr, of Shawnee Mound. At 6 o'clock in the afternoon about 60 --- friends came in upon them -----. After they had somewhat recovered from the complete surprise, ice cream, cake and coffee were served in an elegant manner, at the close of which Rev. G. W. ---- made an appropriate speech in his ---- mood, presenting the following articles: a fine upholstered chair, a present from their older friends and members of the church; a handsome water set from their young friends and members of the Sunday school; a toilet set from John H Mc--- of Crawfordsfille; a fruit dish from Mrs. Kerr's father and mother and several other presents. Speeches were made by Mrs. George Meharry, of California, - - Wheeler and Mr. Wadrup, of A. Mr K's father, Jere Devore and U... Meharry. Mr Kerr was called upon for speech but emotion forbade his talking and he sat down. "Blest be the tie that binds" was sung and the crowd dispersed, feeling that it was good to be there, and that such social occasions are good for both community and church. The occasion will be a pleasant memory to all who were present. May Mr. and Mrs. Kerr live to see the recurrence of many more happy anniversaries.
Note: Thanks so much to Cathie B. for this awesome anniversary write-up. You rock, Cathie! Cathie said it was hard to read so there are blanks and question marks, but overall, a nifty write-up:) kz
