AYDELOTTE
Source: Attica Ledger Press 20 June 1913 p 4
The whole town of Aydelotte went up in smoke Wednesday night about 10 o’clock. Lee Long who owned the store was away from home and the neighbors first saw the fire in the outhouse where oil and such supplies were kept. The explosion of the gasoline tank threw all over the store building and it was burned to the ground. The building was owned by Dave Heath of Oxford. Aydelotte was probably the first attempt at founding a town in the county as it was near the center of the first settlement made in the county way back in 1832 when the people along Pine Creek went to do their trading and had to wade marshes and swim rivers and creeks to get there. The loss on the stock of Mr. Long was about $2000 and the building was probably worth $1,200 – Benton Review ---transcribed by kbz
