SEINE FISHING

Source: Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican 30 August 1902 p1

Down in Fountain county there is a man who is going to test the constitutionality of the confidence game the state of  Indiana has worked on the would-be seine fishermen of the state. Last year they permitted people to obtain and use fish seines, on payment of a license fee. This year not only must the seines not be used, but they must be destroyed, without recompense to the owners, under severe penalties if they fail to do so. The Fountain county man is F. M. Shell, trustee of Mill Creek Tp. He has been fined for having a seine, for which he took out a license, and has appealed to the circuit court and will carry the case to the Supreme court, if necessary.    ~~~transcribed by kbz
