Evangelical Lutheran, Attica, Indiana -- Source: Lafayette Journal and Courier Thursday 30 June 1938 p 15
Celebration of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Attica will be held Sunday, Aug 28 at the church with a historical program and reunion of confirmands.  The Attica Church was organized Aug 23, 1858 by Rev . A. Andreen, a pioneer pastor of the Augustana synod. The church was built in 1859 and dedicated on Christmas Day of that year. It is now the oldest church in the Illinois conference, if not in the Augus6tana synod, in which services are still held.  A historical program will be presented in the afternoon and in the evening there will be a reunion of confirmands. The church now has as its pastor, Rev. CA Johnson.

Miscellaneous Information (some fun stuff)

Newtown Church,  Photo of Congregation in late 1960's, with names. Thanks to Andy Rice for the submission!  - in regards to this photo: a note from Mike McClure Karen, it should be noted that the McClure’s of Marmac Farm are related to the Clarence McClure’s, the Lawrence McKinney’s and the Quirks. The McClure’s and McKinney’s have been Coal Creek neighbors since 1836 when the McKinney’s arrived in Fountain County joining the McClure’s who arrived in 1826. Oak Ridge Cemetery is located on the McClure/McKinney property line and is the home of many an esters from both families. The cemetery was maintained for decades by Pearce McKinney, and before him, his father Lawrence who restored the run down resting place after years of neglect. Lawrence and his bride, Alice Anderson McKinney, returned to Walnut Knoll in the late 30’s or early 40’s to farm when his father Glenn was no longer able. and since his passing my oldest son, Michael C. McClure has provided loving care to the cemetery.
