VOORHEES, Charles Stewart (1853 - 1909)
VOORHEES, Charles Stewart, (son of Daniel Wolsey Voorhees), a Delegate from the Territory of Washington; born in Covington, Fountain County, Ind., June 4, 1853; attended Wabash College, Crawfordsville, Ind., and was graduated from Georgetown College, Washington, D.C., June 26, 1873; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1875 and commenced practice in Terre Haute, Ind.; moved to the Territory of Washington in 1882 and settled in Colfax; prosecuting attorney for Whitman County 1882-1885; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-ninth and Fiftieth Congresses (March 4, 1885-March 3, 1889); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1888; resumed the practice of law in Colfax, Wash.; moved to Spokane, Wash., and continued the practice of law until his death there December 26, 1909; interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
