Veedersburg – The upper story of the Nixon Building on East Second Street is in process of being dismantled. The two-story building, one of the landmarks of Veedersburg was erected about 1873 soon after Peter Veeder and Marhall F. Nixon, his nephew, arrived in the area.  The town of Veedersburg was named for Peter Veeders (sic) and much of the early business was planned and financed by him.  The part of the frame structure being removed is a large hall, which for years was used for dances, skating rinks, political meetings and various other kinds of entertainment. It has not been used in recent years since it was condemned unsafe. It is now the property of Donald Nixon of Veedersburg. Business rooms on the main floor of the building are occupied by Potter’s Tavern, Howard’s Appliance Store, Manasco’s Café and the Red & White Grocery, all of which will continue operations during the remodeling process. - transcribed by kbz
