William M. SONGER, farmer, Veedersburg, son of John Songer (deceased) who settled in Fountain Co Van Buren Twp in 1824 was b. in Va. near the town of Winchester, where he was reared and educated a farmer. John S. was married to Elizabeth KEELING, daughter of James and Christina Keeling, by whom he had six ch: three of whom are now living; Nancy C (Mrs. LISTER); Julia A (Mrs. MORGAN) and William M. Shortly after his marriage he moved to Ohio, where he remained a short time, and then came to Ft. Co In where he d. in 1826. His wife went to Iowa in 1844, where she d. in 1863 age 80 years. William M, son of John b. after his father's death was reared in Ft. Co. where he has always lived, except one year spent in Iowa. He was married to 1849 to Nancy KINNEER, daughter of Samuel & Nancy, settlers of VanBuren Twp as early as 1825. The former d. here, the latter is still living and resides a short distance NW of Veedersburg. By this marriage, he has six children: Allen; Nancy E (Mrs. DUNEER); Mary A. (Mrs. SHULER); Arminda (Mrs. BOOE); John O and James A. Mr. Songer has held the office of constable in Van Buren Twp, at various intervals for 20 years the office of JP for the past 8 and kept store 5 years in the villages of Chambersburg, Sterling and Veedersburg. He now lives in Chambersburg, where he has a nice and beautiful home, and follows farming, the vocation to which he was reared. He served 5 months in the army, at the close of the rebellion in the 154th Ind. Vols. In politics, he is a staunch Republican of the abolition school.
