Fred S. Purnell …candidate for congressman from the 9th District.  Mr. Purnell was born in Fountain County in 1882. He obtained his early education in Fountain County schools.  Following his graduation from Indiana University, he entered the practice of law at Attica in 1904 which he followed until 1916 in which year he was elected to Congress as Representative from the Ninth District. He has served in that capacity since that time and is now one of the outstanding members of Congress being the ranking member of the Agricultural Committee.

Clinton County – Frankfort, Ind May 3 – Clinton County, thought to have been a New stronghold, returned a pluarility of 790 for Beveridge, Beveridge received 2,166 votes New 1,367.  On the Democratic ticket, ex-Governor Ralston received 2,122 votes while his nearest opponent Dan Simmes received 325.  Fred S. Purnell of Attica, seeking renomination for Congress from the 9th District received 2,890 votes against 573 received by WH Unversaw of Kokomo…

“Indiana Representatives” - Fred S. Purnell, 9th district was born in Fountain County  and has made his home for many years at Attica.  His education was secured in the old fashioned country schools, the common and high schools of Veedersburg.  He attended Indiana University from 1890 (?) to 1904, graduating from the law department. He is serving his second term in congress.  His one previous political experience having been at Attica.  His district is composed of Boone, Carroll, Clinton, Fountain, Hamilton, Howard, Montgomery and Tipton counties and former residents of any one of them should write to him.
