Ex-Senator McDonald, His Brother and Other Relatives hold a Reunion
Attica, Oct 28 – Today James D. McDonald celebrated the 79th anniversary of his birth. Besides the family, his wife, two sons and one daughter, there were present his brother-ex-Senator Joseph E. McDonald and wife of Indianapolis; his sister, Mrs. FA March and Mrs. Nellie Shephard, daughter of Mrs. Marsh and her husband, Mr. Dick Shephard of Hamilton, Ohio; his broth brother, WD Kerr of Indianapolis; TN Rinn and wife, JM Adamson, wife and son, McDonald Adamson of Covington. The youngest brother, EM McDonald was absent, being a resident of California.

James D. McDonald is the oldest of the family living. In 1826, he came from his native place, Butler County, Ohio to Crawfordsville. From there he went to Lafayette in 1828 where he engaged in business with Joseph Hanna until 1833 when he went to Williamsport and there remained in the mercantile business under the firm name of McDonald & Hanna until 1844.  He then moved to Attica, where he has resided ever since.  He continued business for many years, the firm then being McDonald, Spears & Co. Since the dissolution of the firm he has lived in retirement. He is yet in vigorous health, never having had a severe attack of sickness during his adult life. The day was most pleasantly spent and will be remembered by those present many long years to come.
