C.M. Keiger was born in Fountain County, Indiana in 1861 and lived on a farm until about 18 years of age. He attended the Indiana State Normal school for some time and also taught school.  He commenced the study of law when about 19, while yet pursuing his school work, but when about 22 years old, his throat became affected, causing a partial paralysis of the muscles of the vocal chords and he was obliged to give up for a time his long-cherished desire of making a lawyer of himself. In the fall of 1884, he was united in marriage to the daughter of PA Guy a prominent farmer of Fountain County who had formerly resided in Kansas.  Acting upon the very excellent judgment of his newly acquired better half he removed to Kansas, locating Conway Springs the 23d day of September 1884 and at once engaged in business. Recovering his voice he resumed the study of law and shortly opened an office and for several years has enjoyed a successful and remunerative practice in the state and federal courts.  He held the office of city clerk of Conway Springs three years and city attorney two years both of which he resigned about two years ago. - kbz
