“Collect Acers’ Appointments from the Leavenworth Standard” – Collector Acers has made the following appointments in the internal revenue district of Kansas… one of the most difficult divisions to manage is the Sixth, which comprises 9 southern Kansas counties and the Indian territory.  Col. JM Jones is appointed deputy for that division. He is a brave, energetic, active man and well fitted for the collection of revenues in the somewhat dangerous and uncertain portion of his district comprised in the Indian territory.  One of the former deputies for that division was drive out of the territory by the Indians.  J.M. Jones, of Parsons, born in Fountain County, Indiana, deputy, age 41, of the sixth division, served in the 25th Illinois Infantry, company D from June 1861 to September 1864.  Been in Kansas 10 years.
