The Fountain County Historical Society wishes to accord this place of special honor to the late Alfred J. HESLER and his wife, the late Clara Rapp Hesler in recognition of and grateful appreciation for the special debt owed to them by the soc. The Heslers were the prime movers in the formation of the society and they left a rich legacy of significant contributions to the cultural, social, religious, civic & economic life of the county in which they lived. Alfred was born May 6, 1885 in Mill Creek Township, Fountain County on the farm where he lived throughout most of his life. He was the son of Clinton F. and Laura Youngblood Hesler and was of German & English ancestry. He attended Wabash & Col (?) Colleges receiving the BA degree from the later in 1911. He and Clara married Oct 1, 1912 having both been teachers at Veedersburg HS. Clara was born Feb 18, 1888 on the family farm near Seymour, Indiana and was educated at Depauw & IU - AB from IU in 1911. Following her mar she retired from her brief tenure as a school teacher and for the next 40 odd years worked tirelessly as a teacher of piano to the young people of this county.....Alfred died May 16, 1971; Clara on Sept 19, 1975. The people of this county are indeed fortunate to have been accorded the priv of assoc with two people of the stuature, energy and abillity of the Heslers, adn those whose lives they touched are the richer for the experience.
