Joseph GALBREATH, wagon maker, Linden, one of Indiana's native born mechanics, came to Linden in 1858 where he has since remained. He was bread a farmer, but disliking the business learned the trade of wagon making in Fountain Co, this state. His parents, John and Martha Galbreath, emigrated to Wayne Co, where Joseph was b. before Indiana was a state. His father was a native of Pa, and his mother Ky, who, after remaining in Wayne Co. for some time, moved to Cass co Mr. G. settled in Fountain Co 1840, where he remained till he located in Linden. He was marr. 1853, to Louhala DALEY, of Preble Co, OH daughter of Edmund and Anna (EMERY) Daley, the former a native of SC, and the latter of NJ and emigrated to Ohio in 1828. By this union there are 9 children: John; Thomas J; James; Anna; Martha; Mary; Joseph; Samuel and Edmund. During the 22 years Mr. G. has lived in Linden he has carried on his business with success. In his shop, and by him, was made the 1st wagon in Madison Twp. He has given employment to from 3 to 5 men for the past 15 years. His early school educ. was limited, but being a close observer he soon became well acquainted with practical life and business. Mr. Galbreath and wife are devout members of the Christian Church, known as the Reform or Disciples' Church, in which he has held the office of elder for 10 years and officiated as minister for the past 20 years and he is also a member of the ancient order of Masons. His father's family originally came from No. Ireland. His grandmother was the only survivor of her family, all of the rest having been massacred in Ky. by the Indians, she having escaped by concealing herself under a log. Several times the blood thirsty villains passed up and down on that friendly trunk while she lay crouched beneath it. Mr. G. is respected by all for his generosity and integrity of character.
