FAUST-Mont Clair - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

Lee R. FAUST and Martha STEWART Faust of near New Market, Indiana were the parents of Mont C. born in 1888 and L. Guy, born in 1889. The family moved to Covington about 1900 where Lee was a plumber and Martha a milliner. The boys attended both Montgomery County and Covington schools. Mont was graduated from Indiana Dental School in 1912 and opened a dental office in Covington which he shared with Dr. CC Wert, MD. That office was on the south side of Liberty Street which is now occupied by Williams Studio & Douglas & Nelson, Inc. He married Ethel Von Berg, daughter of Henry and Florence Von Bert in 1914. Three children were born to them: Virginia Clair 1915; Martha Von 1917 and a son who died at birth. Dr. Faust was a member of the Covington Masonic Lodge, the Indiana Dental Society and the First Church of Christ. His hobby was raising Guernsey cattle and he owned Vir-Mar Guernsey Farm. He served on both state and national boards of the American Guernsey Cattle Club. Mont was a lifelong Democrat and served as Fountain County Chair for several years. Ethel Faust died in 1964 and Dr. Faust 1966. l. Guy Faust began work in M. Mayer's Hardware Store at age 18. He married Daisy Rhodes, daughter of Samuel and Julia Rhodes whose farm home was south of Covington. Guy purchased the Mayer Hardware to Faust & Frey hardware when Charles Frey became a partner in 1948. No children were born to Guy & Daisy but they were fondly known as "Uncle Guy and Aunt Daisy" to many Covington youth. Guy was a member of the 1st Church of Christ, Knights of Pythias and served as pres and VP of the Covington Building & Loan Association for many years. he was a staunch Democrat and a very popular man in the community. Guy and Daisy celebrated their 68th anniv in June 1979. He passed away in November 1979, Daisy is still active in community affairs and maintains their home in Covington as well as their winter home in Ft. Myers, Florida. Virginia Faust attended PU and later worked in the Faust Hardware. She married Charles Frey of Attica in 1936. They live in Covington and have 5 children: Jerry, Richard, Thoms, Judith Caviglia and Suzanne Allen.. They reared a foster daughter, Kathy Krout Fulkerson. Virginia is an artist, an excellent cook and in spite of her hearing loss remains active in social and civic affairs. Martha Von Faust attended IU and in 1938 married James B. Wallace of Veedersburg, a young lawyer who opened an office in Covington in 1936. They have 4 children: Scott; Robert; Janet Guthridge and Ann Minnette. Martha served as organist and choir director of the Methodist Church for many years and is till active in church and community affairs.
