McManomy Coffing was elected on Jan 4 on the State Board of Agriculture to represent the Seventh district.  Mr. Coffing is the secretary-treasure of the Fountain County Federation of Farmer’s Association and has been a prominent factor in all that tends to promote the welfare of the farming interests.  He is therefore well qualified for the position to which he has been elected and no better man could have been selected to represent the interests of the farmers of the 7th district.

A petition has been filed in the circuit court for the construction of a large county ditch in Troy township which if constructed will drain several large farms. The petition was filed by LeRoy DeHaven who owns a large farm east of Covington. The farms affected by the proceeding belong to the petitioner, the heir of Margaret DeHaven, deceased, Emma Coffing, John R. DeHaven, WB Coffing, McMannomy Coffing.

McManomy Coffing who has been suffering from a severe case of kidney trouble requiring the services of a specialist and a trained nurse for a few days is recovering and hopes to be in his usual good health in a short time.

McMannomy Coffing, who has a fine position with the General Electrical Company of Chicago came to Covington Saturday and visited over Sunday with home folks.

McMannomy Coffing finished his school work for the year at Wabash College this week and came home for the summer Wednesday.

Albert Cobb of Winthrop, Tom McCauley, Dan Gray and John G. Kerr of Newtown and Rider Freeman of Wingate and McMannomy Coffing of Covington graduated from Wabash College this year.

Covington – Services for McMannomy Coffing, 67 of Covington a former state representative from Lake County were held here Sunday.  Mr. Coffing who served as a state representative in 1943 and 1944, died at his home Friday.  A retired insurance man and industrialist he moved to Covington from Gary a little more than a year ago.  Survivors include two sisters: Mrs. Louise C. Gilsland and Mrs. Mary C. Dunlap several nieces and nephews.
